Under general supervision, to estimate the costs for pre-construction and select-bid projects of a diverse nature; to provide support for the activities and/or staff of the Estimating department. Employees in this job class determine the scope and content of work to be done in a variety of pre-construction projects and develop budgets while participating in the value engineering process to keep the project in budget. This job class requires knowledge of estimating methodology, practices, and procedures; and the ability to effectively respond to RFP’s using a variety of software programs including Sage, Microsoft Office programs and other related software programs to generate pre-construction estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and analyzes pre-construction projects from conceptual to final project plans and specifications; requests additional information/specifications to determine the scope of work and required content of the budget.  Bids and analyzes select-bid projects for SVC.*
  • Works with subcontractors to obtain their best bid price; develops bid strategies to be the low bidder on the project while maintaining acceptable profitability level for SVC.*
  • Conducts quantity take-offs and studies, prepares budgets for different phases of the project.*
  • Attends a variety of meetings to discuss pre-construction projects such as meeting with subcontractors to review scope of work and pricing, presenting budget bids and cost savings to owners, addressing constructability issues, etc.*
  • Uses computer software programs to create budgets and save data in departmental database; may maintain department database for Timberline.*
  • Prints, views, and edits Autocad files as necessary.*
  • Visits job sites as required.*
  • Performs a variety of other functions in support of department; may cover for other staff when absent.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a business office environment with limited privacy and exposure to noise from others conducting business on the telephone.  Travel to job sites and meetings is required.

Requirements

• BS or BA in Civil Engineering, Building Construction, Construction Management, Architecture, Architectural Engineering or equivalent

• Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial construction working for a general contractor

• Ability to speak in public and present project proposals

• Strong working knowledge of Excel and Word

• Strong prioritization and organizational skills

• Detail-oriented and strong problem-solving skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

CERTIFICATES REQUIRED: Valid California Driver’s License
